Special Investigations Unit says driver fled from police Sunday night and struck cement pole on Yonge Street, north of Big Bay Point Road

Four people were seriously injured Sunday night when a car crashed into a cement pole on Yonge Street, north of Big Bay Point Road, in south-end Barrie.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says at approximately 8:30 p.m., Jan. 1, Barrie police officers on patrol in a marked SUV spotted a silver car speeding on Yonge Street at Mapleview Drive East.

The car fled north on Yonge Street before crashing, according to the SIU.

Simcoe County paramedics were called and all four people in the car were taken to hospital.

The SIU is seeking any witnesses or dash-cam footage of a silver car fleeing Barrie police before it crashed into a hydro pole.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online by clicking here.

Three SIU investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case. One subject official and two witness officials have been designated at this time.
