Sailing school staffer taken to hospital after training exercise incident

An incident occurred late yesterday afternoon (Aug. 9) involving Collingwood Sailing School staff members. No students of the Sailing School were involved however, during an after-hours training exercise, school instructors suffered an equipment malfunction in heavy wind and waves. Although the experience and training of the instructors contributed greatly to their ultimate safety, one crew member was taken to the hospital for a precautionary assessment. He was later released with no identified injuries.

The OPP, Coast Guard, and members of the public provided tremendous support in assisting and responding to the incident.

The Collingwood Sailing School, while grateful and relieved that no one was injured, are taking the opportunity to review and tighten processes and procedures in order to ensure increased safety for everyone involved in the program.
