NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE
*************************
As the winter storm is continuing in South Bruce the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police is urging motorists to stay off the roads until such time that it is safe to travel. There are currently no county or municipal snowplows operating at this time due to the dangerous driving conditions. According to the Grey County website all roads maintained by Grey County are also closed this morning.

Unless absolutely necessary to travel, the South Bruce OPP is advising drivers to stay off the roadways. The high winds and blowing snow are creating zero visibility conditions throughout the county.

The following Bruce County Roads are currently closed:

  • Hwy 21 from Goderich to Owen Sound
  • Bruce Road 23 from Lorne Beach Road to Bruce Road 15
  • Hwy 9 from Walkerton to Kincardine
  • Bruce Road 10 from Hwy 21 to Hepworth
  • County Road 4 from Teeswater to Wingham

The closures are in effect due to high winds, blowing snow and poor visibility to absolute white outs. Not all roads will have a physical barricade in place, but motorists are asked to respect the closures and avoid these roads.

The penalty for driving on a closed highway is a $110 fine and 3 demerit points, but the consequences can be far worse if you become involved in a collision, or stranded, in a white out.

The South Bruce OPP is currently dealing with multiple motorists stuck and stranded on roadways in heavy drifts in near white out conditions. Police are urging motorists to not travel until the storm passes.

We ask the public to be cautious of Emergency crews as they continue to assist these motorists this evening and into tomorrow.
