The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority says recent heavy rain has caused stream levels to rise quickly.

It has issued a Water Safety Statement saying some levels could keep going up over the next few days.

Around 40 mm fell Thursday evening and there are small amounts of rain in the forecast for the next three days.

“Stream banks may be slippery and unstable, creating hazardous conditions around our fast-flowing rivers and streams,” it said. “There is the potential for localized flooding in low-lying areas.”

However, the overall flood potential remains low and no major flooding is anticipated at this time.

“Hazardous conditions exist around all waterbodies, as there is a high risk of life-threatening injury if a person falls into the water,” the conservation authority added.

“The public and especially children are advised to stay away from all waterbodies.”

This Water Safety Statement will be in effect until Saturday.
