Public Health Ontario is reporting 228 people in ICU with COVID-19, and 1,631 new COVID cases today, however, these numbers may be underestimated due to limitations in who can get tested.

Public Health Ontario has changed how they are reporting deaths that occur due to COVID-19, excluding those deaths that were not related to COVID-19. This has brought the total number of deaths down from previous reports.

Not all hospitals report a daily bed census over the weekend, and due to a technical issue, Public Health Ontario has not released hospitalization numbers for March 12.

The March 12 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

  • 1,635 recoveries and 8 deaths
  • 228 patients are in ICU with COVID-19 related illness.
  • 123 patients in ICU with COVID-19 are on ventilators (25 of those patients no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 11,874 tests were processed yesterday with a 13.7 per cent positivity rate.
  • Another 3,107 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, over 23 million tests have been completed.

Vaccines

  • There were 15,147 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 31,882,192 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 12,065,628 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,125,340 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 1,096,856 recoveries and 12,256 deaths, 4,382 of those in long-term care homes.
