Police have reopened Hurontario Street between Second and Third Streets after an investigation into what police officials called "public safety information."
Shortly after 11 a.m. today, several officers arrived to Hurontario Street surrounding National Bank with weapons drawn.
Constable Martin Hachey, spokesperson for Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP said there are no injuries and no one is in custody. Officers from Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP and Huronia West OPP responded to the situation.
Hachey said police received a report of danger to public safety, and have partially evacuated the portion of Hurontario Street between Second and Third. He said some people were asked to stay indoors in the shops and apartments on the street.
The street is closed to traffic of any kind, including vehicular and pedestrian, and Hachey is asking members of the public to avoid the area.
Those with cars parked on the main street will not be able to access them until Police have cleared the area. Hachey said he didn't have an estimate on how long it would take before the street would be reopened.
"Patience will be a virtue," said Hachey.
Hachey said more information will be coming from police this afternoon. There have been no arrests.
