A local pet store recently handed over $6,003 to the Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS).

Pet Valu in Collingwood donated the proceeds of its pet appreciation month fundraiser to the local shelter.

The GTHS executive director, Sonya Reichel, said the shelter is grateful to be chosen as the charity of choice for the local store's pet appreciation month.

"Without local government funding, it is local businesses like Pet Valu that allow us to house, feed and care for the thousands of homeless pets that arrive at our animal centre every year," said Reichel in a news release. "We are overwhelmed with gratitude."
