People and paws for a good cause

The annual Georgian Triangle Humane Society Walk-a-Thon brought people and pets together at Blue Mountain

The seventh-annual Friends for Life Walkathon took place at Blue Mountain Village on Sunday.

The event is hosted by the Georgian Triangle Humane Society and is designed to bring together humans and their furry friends to raise money for a good cause.

Deanna Langan attended the fundraiser for the first time this year and dressed her pups up for the occasion.

“Mazikeen is the devil. I saw this costume at Value Village and I thought it was too perfect,” Langan laughed, looking down affectionately at her dalmation. “Flint is quiet, so he’s the angel.”

People and dogs of all ages (and breeds) came out to support the cause. Family-friendly activities included a three-kilometre walk with or without a dog, face painting, animal readings with the Blue Mountain Medium, Paw Patrol, and contests for the best pet trick and costume.

Anna Agresta, the fundraising coordinator for GTHS, said the Walkathon is generally their second-largest fundraising event of the year, and was happy to see such a great turnout.

“An event where you can bring your dogs is a winner. Any reason to get outside for a good cause is usually a huge draw,” said Agresta.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the walk go to support GTHS operations, and Agresta adds that she hopes to top last year’s total of just over $50,000.
