Ontario reports 411 new COVID cases Wednesday

Today's update also includes 932 recoveries, 62 new hospitalizations, and 33 deaths

Public Health Ontario has reported 411 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report (June 9).

Today's update also includes 932 new recoveries and 33 deaths. 

The deaths reported today include two people between 20 and 39 years old, three people between 40 and 59 years old, 20 people between 60 and 79 years old, and eight people over 79 years old. 

Eleven of the deaths included in today's report actually occurred in April and May, but were reported for the first time today. 

Since yesterday's update, there have been 62 new hospitalizations, and 20 more COVID patients admitted to intensive care units.

The June 8 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 6,824 active, lab-confirmed cases, down from 7,378 yesterday.
  • 571 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 621 yesterday.
  • There are 466 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 481 yesterday) and 314 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 305 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 30,456 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a two per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 15,135 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 15.4 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 97 are from Toronto, 72 cases are from Peel, and 13 are from Simcoe-Muskoka. 
  • Today's cases include 102 individuals aged 19 and under, 150 people between 20 and 39 years old, 113 people between 40 and 59 years old, 43 people between 60 and 79 years old, and four people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 177,506 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday, up from 158,209 doses administered on June 7.
  • 10,445,119 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total,1,282,676 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 537,487 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 521,743 recoveries and 8,920 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,615.9 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 35 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 28.4 per cent from the prior seven-day period. 

Currently, most health units in the province have weekly incidence rates between 0.6 and 60 cases per 100,000, with the exception of the Porcupine Health Unit (Timmins area) where the incidence rate is 292 cases per 100,000 people. 

Simcoe-Muskoka

Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 13 new cases in the region. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,078 cases of COVID-19 with 11,210 of those cases recovered and 246 cases ending in death.

There are 199 active cases in the region. 

The weekly incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 25.4 cases per 100,000, which is a decrease of 26.8 per cent over last week (May 24 to 30).
