Public Health Ontario has reported 2,400 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 20).
Today's report includes 2,763 recoveries and 27 new deaths.
The deaths reported today include three people between 40 and 59 years old, 15 people between 60 and 79 years old, and nine people over 79 years old.
Since yesterday, the province has reported 135 new hospitalizations and 27 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.
The May 20 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 23,026 active, lab-confirmed cases, which is down from 23,416 reported yesterday.
- 1,320 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,401 reported yesterday.
- There are 721 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 735 yesterday) and 493 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 539 reported yesterday).
- The province reported 45,406 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 5.2 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 20,642 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.9 million tests have been completed.
- Of the new cases reported today, 607 are from Toronto, 528 cases are from Peel, 181 are from York Region, and 70 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
- Today's cases include 494 individuals aged 19 and under, 981 people between 20 and 39 years old, 628 people between 40 and 59 years old, 241 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 57 people aged 80 and over.
Vaccines
- There were 144,986 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 19, which is down from 145,461 administered on May 18.
- As of 6 p.m. on May 19, the province reported 7,576,624 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 473,759 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 517,090 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 485,512 recoveries and 8,552 deaths, of which 3,943 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,478.7 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 107 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 18.8 per cent from last week (May 4 to May 10).

Simcoe-Muskoka
Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 51 new COVID cases in the region.
There are 751 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.
The health unit has reported 4,241 variant cases confirmed to date; 562 of those cases still active.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 11,493 cases of COVID-19 with 9,953 of those cases recovered and 241 cases ending in death.
The weekly incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka is 57.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 14.5 per cent compared to last week.
