Public Health Ontario has reported 1,588 new cases of COVID-19 today (May 19).
Today's report includes 3,119 recoveries and 19 new deaths.
The deaths reported today include two people between 20 and 39 years old, five people between 40 and 59 years old, four people between 60 and 79 years old, and eight people over 79 years old.
Since yesterday, the province has reported 124 new hospitalizations and 24 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.
The May 19 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 23,416 active, lab-confirmed cases, which is down from 24,966 reported yesterday.
- 1,401 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, down from 1,484 reported yesterday.
- There are 735 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 764 yesterday) and 539 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 559 reported yesterday).
- The province reported 38,422 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 5.2 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 26,091 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 14.8 million tests have been completed.
- Of the new cases reported today, 524 are from Toronto, 335 cases are from Peel, 94 are from York Region, and 27 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
- Today's cases include 304 individuals aged 19 and under, 633 people between 20 and 39 years old, 447 people between 40 and 59 years old, 173 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 34 people aged 80 and over.
Vaccines
- There were 145,461 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on May 18, which is up from 109,032 administered on May 17.
- As of 6 p.m. on May 18, the province reported 7,431,638 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 456,784 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 514,690 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 482,749 recoveries and 8,525 deaths, of which 3,943 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,462.6 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 110.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 18 per cent from last week (May 3 to May 9).

Simcoe-Muskoka
Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 42 new COVID cases in the region.
There are 767 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.
The health unit has reported 4,206 variant cases confirmed to date, with 573 of those cases still active.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 11,446 cases of COVID-19 with 9,891 of those cases recovered and 241 cases ending in death.
The weekly incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka is 57.7 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 18 per cent compared to last week.
