Ontario Public Health reports 1,676 COVID hospitalizations, 13 deaths

Saturday's report included 2,300 recoveries and 140 patients in intensive care units who are testing positive for COVID-19

On April 30, Public Health Ontario is reporting 1,676 COVID-positive patients in hospital and 188 people in intensive care units with COVID.

There are 188 patients in ICU with COVID-related illness, but 31 of those individuals are no longer testing positive for COVID.

Public Health Ontario is also reporting 13 new deaths that occurred in the past month.

There are also 2,799 new COVID cases, although new case counts are underestimated as testing is limited. 

The April 30 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:

Cases

  • 3,158 recoveries and 13 deaths since yesterday's report. 
  • Among the latest cases, 1,763 of the individuals have received three doses, 548 have received two doses, 310 are not fully vaccinated and 178 have an unknown vaccination status.
  • Lab-confirmed testing is mostly limited to Indigenous people, hospitalized people, and those who live or work in high-risk congregate care settings. As such a majority of the people being tested are fully vaccinated as per provincial or workplace mandatory vaccine policies.

Hospitalizations

  • 1,676 people are in hospital testing positive for COVID-19. Of those, 44 per cent were hospitalized because of COVID-19 and the other 56 per cent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID. 
  • There are 157 patients in Ontario ICUs with COVID. Of those, 70 per cent were admitted because of COVID-19 and the other 30 per cent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID.
  • There are 67 COVID patients on ventilators.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,258,137 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and reported 1,214,942 recoveries and 12,825 deaths.
