Online auction to fund much-needed medical equipment

Proceeds will go towards a new MRI at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital

The annual Online Meaford Hospital Foundation Auction is about to go live. With over 100 items, the foundation is overwhelmed with the response from local businesses.

Jen Wright, executive director of the foundation stated, “We are very appreciative of the support from our local businesses who have always come forward to donate. This year’s auction will help raise funds that are needed for a vital piece of equipment for our regional needs at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital. The MRI plays a critical role as it’s the only one in Grey Bruce and it saves patients from travelling several hours away for diagnostic imaging. Our current MRI is almost 15 years old, and the technology has changed significantly.”

With the government's lack of funding for capital equipment items such as this, it becomes the responsibility of the community. At a cost of $4.7 million, the foundation knows it has a lot of fundraising to do to help raise their portion of the goal, but with the online auction and the Christmas campaign they hope to get close.

Up for grabs are golf packages, family experiences and getaways, local food and beverage gift cards, ski and snowboard packages including day trips, caving, snowshoeing, theatre and many local goods and services.

“There really is something for everyone, a perfect place to Christmas shop while supporting a local foundation,” says Wright.

The online auction starts at 8 a.m. on Nov. 12 and closes on Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. Bidders can go online to register before the bidding starts here.

The auction features proxy bidding which allows the bidder to enter a maximum amount that they are willing to pay and their bid will automatically be increased until they reach the desired amount. The winners will be notified by email when they reach their maximum bid and they can then decide if they wish to carry on.

Good luck!
