The COVID-19 outbreak in the surgical unit at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH) is now over, according to a news release from the hospital.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit declared the outbreak on Oct. 8 and has since declared one in the hospital's medical unit, which remains active.

The hospital's news release states the surgical unit has reopened for visitors, but the medical unit remains closed to visitors. Admissions continue for the medical unit, which is divided into COVID-positive and COVID-negative zones.

“CGMH continues to see increasing rates of COVID-19 infections which is resulting in increased pressure on our bed capacity and higher wait times in our Emergency Department,” said Mike Lacroix, CGMH president and CEO, in the news release. “When visiting the hospital, we are asking for the public’s assistance in following our masking guidelines to help keep our patients and CGMH team safe.”

The hospital requires masks for all visitors, specifically masks provided by the hospital, be worn for the entire visit. No eating or drinking is permitted while visiting a patient on any floor.

"Visitors that are not adhering to the hospital’s masking guidelines, will be asked to leave," states the hospital's news release.
