One Collingwood, eight Wasaga residents among 283 new COVID cases in region since Friday

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 283 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths since Friday.

The deaths reported today include a Bradford West Gwillimbury man who was over 79 years old and a Muskoka woman between 65 and 79 years old. The man died on April 23 and the woman died on April 24.

There are 1,313 active, lab-confirmed cases in the region, most of which are in Simcoe County.

The health unit has reported 3,011 variant cases confirmed to date, with 910 of those cases still active.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 10,097 cases of COVID-19 with 8,123 of those cases recovered and 221 cases ending in death. 

There are 52 people from Simcoe County and one person from Muskoka hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes 11 new hospitalizations since yesterday. 

To date, 169,220 people in Simcoe-Muskoka region have received their first dose of a vaccination against COVID-19, which is about 27 per cent of the region's population. 

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise noted):

  • Collingwood (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is attributed to community transmission.
  • Wasaga Beach (8): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and three people between 65 and 79 years old. Seven cases are linked to close contact and one is attributed to community transmission. 
  • Barrie (101): Twelve youth under 18 years old, 42 people between 18 and 34 years old, 14 people between 35 and 44 years old, 25 people between 45 and 64 years old, five people between 65 and 79 years old, and three people over 79 years old. Five cases are outbreak-related, 11 are community-acquired, and 33 are linked to close contact. 
  • Springwater (8): Two youth under 18 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Four cases are linked to close contact.
  • Innisfil (45): Fifteen youth under 18 years old, 15 people between 18 and 34 years old, seven people between 35 and 44 years old, seven people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Seven cases were community-acquired, and 17 were linked to close contact. 
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (57): Fourteen youth under 18 years old, 19 people between 18 and 34 years old, 10 people between 35 and 44 years old, 11 people between 45 and 64 tears old, two people between 65 and 79 years old, and one person over 79 years old. One case is outbreak-related, nine were community-acquired, and 26 were linked to close contact.
  • Orillia (3): One person between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Oro-Medonte (3): Three people between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Ramara (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old.
  • Midland (3): Three people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is attributed to community transmission. 
  • Severn (1):  One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is linked to close contact.
  • Tiny (3): One person between 18 and 34 years old, and two people between 35 and 44 years old. One case is linked to close contact, and one was community-acquired.
  • Tay (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old. 
  • Essa (8): One youth under 18 years old, three people between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are attributed to community transmission. 
  • New Tecumseth (29): One youth under 18 years old, six people between 18 and 34 years old, six people between 35 and 44 years old, and 16 people between 45 and 64 years old. Seven cases were linked to close contact, six were community-acquired, and one was outbreak-related.
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (5): Three youth under 18 years old, and two people between 18 and 34 years old. Four cases are linked to close contact.
  • There are six new cases in Muskoka, including one in Gravenhurst, two in Bracebridge, and three in Huntsville
