Essa Township Mayor Terry Dowdall will be the next federal Conservative candidate in the Simcoe-Grey riding.

Dowdall was chosen by the riding association to replace Kellie Leitch as the riding’s candidate for the next federal election. MP Kellie Leitch announced she will not be running in the next election.

Dowdall was seeking the nomination alongside three other candidates including Marc Biss, Tim Bulmer and Gillian Yeates.

Leitch did send an email to newsletter subscribers before the new candidate was chosen suggesting candidates Marc Biss and Tim Bulmer are the “only real conservatives running in this race.”

Once the results were announced, Letich’s twitter account sent out a tweet to congratulate Dowdall on the nomination calling him both a “great” and an “outstanding” candidate.

The next Canadian federal election is scheduled to take place on or before Oct. 21, 2019.
