Though 2020 won't be a banner year for summer camps - many have been cancelled altogether - the town of Collingwood is hoping a new program will be the next best thing.

Camp Collingwood is a virtual version of summer camp. Launched by the town's Parks, Recreation and Culture department, the program features weekly activities such as games, scavenger hunts, crafts, books, and music. There are activities for children, youth, seniors, and even some suited to intergenerational groups.

There will also be weekly themes beginning with "History of Canada" for the first week of July. The themes will continue with weeks dedicated to gardens and pollinators, diversity, water, words, going green, animals, aviation, and kindness.

"Summer is a time for active adventure, to explore, and to discover new things," said Director of Parks, Recreation, and Culture Mel Milanovic, in a press release issued by the town.

And since summer camps usually come with keepsakes, the town will also be offering theme button badges at the Collingwood Public Library camp tent each Monday (starting July 6).

You'll be able to find all the camp activities and themes on RallyPoint online here.
