MPP Saunderson announces funding for new Wasaga Public School

The project was approved by Ministry of Education in 2018, but school board has been waiting on province to give approval to proceed with construction

Simcoe-Grey MPP Brian Saunderson announced funding for a new elementary school in Wasaga Beach, which means te project can go out to tender now. 

The province has approved $14.9 million for Wasaga Beach Public School, which is earmarked for the Sunnidale Trails subdivision. 

According to the Simcoe County District School Board, the new school was actually approved by the Ministry of Education in March, 2018. At that time, the construction value was estimated at $10.8 million. 

According to the school board website, the design for the school is complete and the board was waiting on provincial approval to proceed with construction. 

A news release issued by Saunderson's office indicated the new school will have capacity for 406 elementary students.

“The funding for a new elementary school in Wasaga Beach is great news for our community,” said Saunderson, in the news release. “This investment will ensure families and students have access to a quality learning environment in the years ahead.”

According to the MPP, the Simcoe County District School Board now has the province's approval to put the project out for tender.
