March Break brings out winter enthusiasts

Lots to do during March Break

Blue Mountain Resort was a hub of activity Saturday for the start of March Break with temperatures hovering below the freezing point.

Snow overnight attracted a large crowd of skiers and snowboarders to the hills, but the Village was busy too.

Saturday’s events started with Interactive Grove Dancing where emcee Tyler Boyle led passersby in some simple street-dance moves to Caribbean music to keep everyone warm.

Opposite the dance zone, Anita and Nicole Dejong of Dejong Acres of Wiarton prepared maple taffy on snow for young and old alike.

Every day through to March 18 there is multiple activities in the village running during the days. March 11 features a magic show with Sawyer Bullock at 3 p.m. followed by live music by the outdoor fire pit with Jayden Grahlman at 4 p.m. Sunday’s events conclude with fireworks over the Mill Pond at 8 p.m.

Taffy on the snow runs through to March 18 from noon to 4 p.m.

Hypnotist Buzz Collins takes the Village State at 3:30 p.m. on March 16. Events wrap up with the Nate Douglas Band at the Village State from 4 to 6 p.m. March 17.

Meanwhile at nearby Scenic Caves Nature Adventures there will be daily scavenger hunts and an outdoor spider dogs and s’mores roasted on an open fire in addition to snowshoeing, the suspension bridge and children’s play park.

The Collingwood Public library has daily events running for children ages 3 to 13 including the “I Spy” challenge all week long and the Great Collingwood Paper Airplane Competition March 16 at 10:30 a.m.

Teen events including library mini golf on March 15 at 10 a.m. and six-word memoirs all week long.

The Collingwood Museum is also offering programs for children between the ages of six and 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. Pet Patrol bingo and crafts is March 14, pirate themed activities including a treasure hunt is March 15 and St. Patrick crafts and activities is on March 16.
