Local Live Lunch calls it a season (7 photos)

Between 400 and 500 packed the event weekly this summer: BIA official

A downtown mainstay has packed up for another season.

Wednesday, Aug. 28 marked the last Local Live Lunch for the season, and between musical act What’z What and lunch provided by Cabin Bistro, attendees weren’t disappointed.

Brooke Girdwood, summer student and events co-ordinator with the Downtown Collingwood BIA, looks back fondly on the 10-week season.

“It’s really nice that each summer people come back and keep building relationships in the community. I think that’s the really important thing,” said Girdwood.

“It’s a pretty well-oiled machine by now,” she added, with a laugh.

Girdwood said every Wednesday this summer was well-attended with the chairs full most weeks, and overflow seating across the road from 186 Hurontario Street.

“I would say we probably had 400 to 500 people come every single Wednesday,” she said. “Since it’s mid-week, the majority of them were locals.”

Looking forward, Girdwood said the BIA likes the location and doesn’t see it moving to accommodate more people anytime soon.

“We love having it right downtown, but hopefully in the future we will be able to have some sort of place we can host it that will have a greater capacity,” said Girdwood.

“A lot of people think a lot of our events are geared toward tourists, but we’re here to show people that Collingwood is a place to live, not just a place to visit,” she added.
