As Remembrance Day approaches, local legions have been working on plans for cenotaph services and other memorial events.

There will be cenotaph services in Collingwood, Thornbury, and Ravenna this year.

On Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. local Girl Guides will be co-hosting a candlelit vigil of remembrance at the Thornbury cenotaph.

On Nov. 11, there will be wreath-laying services at 11 a.m. at both the Collingwood and the Thornbury cenotaphs.

The Collingwood cenotaph is located on the museum grounds.

There will be no parade for the Collingwood service this year.

The Thornbury cenotaph is at Jack Acres Park on the corner of Russell St. W and Marsh St. across from St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church.

Also on Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. there will be another wreath-laying service at the cenotaph in Ravenna.

Poppy pins are for sale at several businesses in both Collingwood and The Blue Mountains with all proceeds supporting the local Legion’s Poppy Fund. Money from the Poppy Fund is used to support veterans and their families.

You can also donate to the Poppy Fund online here.
