Today a local home care provider is hopping back into an Easter tradition by delivering a springtime treat to Collingwood residents living in nursing and retirement homes.

Comfort Keepers Georgian Triangle will be visiting the local homes today (April 15) with the Easter Bunny and some cupcakes in the hopes of bringing smiles to the people they visit.

The annual tradition started about five years ago, and extends to other holidays like Halloween and Christmas. But the social calls and treats have been on hold for the pandemic, even as the Comfort Keepers work continues.

The Collingwood-based agency offers private home healthcare support in the Georgian Triangle area, with their services extending all the way to Midland and Owen Sound.

Owner Blaine Bell said the Easter visits and treat deliveries started as a way to give back to the residents and homes and health care communities where Comfort Keepers home care providers are working.

"It's always a special moment," said Bell of the visits. "It brings a smile to a lot of faces."

He said there are some people who don't have family visits on holidays, and others who have family and grandchildren there, and all enjoy seeing the Easter Bunny or whatever special guest comes with treats from Comfort Keepers.

"It's been a tough two years with a lot of people locked inside," said Bell. "It's nice to be able to get back into the community as it recovers from being locked down. We hope this will bring some sunshine and a smile."
