Metro Collingwood customers helped the local grocery store become one of the top 15 donating locations across the province.

Last year, customers at Collingwood Metro raised more than $8,000 in food collection for the annual food donation bag program, putting them near the top of Ontario's Metro stores donating in 2018.

The food bags are for sale at Metro now, and will be donated to Salvation Army in Collingwood. On top of the donation bags, Metro will donate $1 to Feed Ontario.

According to a report from Feed Ontario, 501,590 people used a food bank in Ontario in 2017. The report also states there is a 10 per cent increase in the number of seniors accessing food banks in 2017, which is an increase nearly three times faster than the growth of Ontario's senior population.
