Collingwood Climate Action Team is sending out a challenge to all residents: park your car and leave it for Sept. 22.

To mark World Car Free Day, the climate action team is working with Collingwood restaurants and businesses to provide incentives for people who leave their vehicles at home for the day.

Participating businesses will be offering "carbon credits" to people who arrive without a car. The Collingwood Climate Action Team will be posting locations on its Instagram account (@collingwoodclimateaction).

The group has also put out a map noting "downtown is closer than you think," to show walking and biking distances from Collingwood residential areas to downtown.

They are encouraging people to get together with friends for a ride or walk to a downtown business.

There will be an official unveiling of the map at 6 p.m. on Sept. 22 in the town hall parking lot. Following the unveiling there will be a discussion on the Collingwood Climate Action Team's Carbon Footprint Challenge, and a group ride down the Maple Street bike priority pilot project route.
