A resident out for a walk on March 31 snapped this photo of a vandalized turtle sculpture at the Collingwood Labyrinth.

A custom made turtle sculpture at the Collingwood labyrinth has been tagged with graffiti, along with several other signs and garbage bins around town.

The sculpture sits between the labyrinth and the waterfront at Harbourview Park, and this is the first time it's been tagged in graffiti.

The graffiti was noticed and reported to town staff on March 31 in the afternoon.

According to Wendy Martin, manager of parks for the Town of Collingwood, the graffiti remover works better in warmer temperatures, so staff will be removing the graffiti from the sculpture next week.

Martin said there were signs and garbage bins tagged in the same colour paint and town staff have let OPP know about the incidents.

The turtle was commissioned by the committee that raised funds and built the labyrinth in 2015.  At the time, nesting turtles caused some construction delays, and this inspired the committee to approach metalsmith John McCaffrey to create a turtle sculpture for the site.

The sculpture was named Florence, and she overlooks the water from her spot beside the labyrinth.

Turtles continue to use the area for nesting each year.
