A free candidate information workshop has been scheduled for Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Collingwood Legion (490 Ontario Street, Collingwood). The workshop will give you an understanding of council's roles and responsibilities and provide an overview of the significant changes coming to local government.

The workshop is hosted by The Town of Collingwood, in partnership with the Town of The Blue Mountains, Town of Wasaga Beach, Township of Clearview, Municipality of Grey Highlands and the Municipality of Meaford.

Who should attend:

  • Registered and potential candidates;
  • Spouse or partner of a candidate; and
  • Anyone interested in learning more about how local government works.

Guest Speaker:
Fred Dean is a lawyer, retired from practice, who knows the ins and outs of municipal government; giving civic leaders the tools to make effective decisions and engage citizens in the process. Insightful and entertaining, Fred has shared his experience and expertise with municipal councils and notable organizations with high praise, and has been a facilitator training members of council and heads of council on behalf of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario since 2002.

  • Roles and responsibilities
  • The public’s role in local government
  • Impact on family life
  • The difference between governance and administration
  • Municipal conflict of interest and other personal responsibility
