A special public skating event coming up this weekend aims to include everyone in on-ice fun.

The Children’s Treatment Network, which operates out of space at the Collingwood YMCA, has partnered with E3 Community Services to host an inclusive community skating event.

According to a news release sent out by Children’s Treatment Network, the event will focus on individuals with special needs by allowing adaptive devices such as wheelchairs and sledges.

There will be a variety of sledges available for use by the public, and Collingwood Firefighters will be standing by to assist with transfers.

According to Children’s Treatment Network, the town of Collingwood’s public skating policy is “very inclusive” and there are seven sledges available for the general public to use during public skating regularly. There will be more information on the town’s policy and available sledges at the inclusive skating event, which takes place Dec. 16 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Central Park Arena. Admission is free.
