From November 2 to 11, the inaugural Remembrance Week Project offers historical, Indigenous and cultural speakers, a memorabilia show and tell event, art and artifact exhibits, National Film Board films and documentaries, and live, professional theatre with Shipyard Kitchen Party’s feature play “100 Years From Now: A folk musical of love, sacrifice and The Great War.”

Remembrance Day challenges Canadians with one task: to never forget. But, we want to challenge people to change the way they choose to remember. The Remembrance Week project is designed to inspire the community to remember by collectively rediscovering and embracing history.

Participants of all ages are encouraged to share various Canadian war-related stories through art. Art includes paintings, poems, original music, film, artifacts, sculptures, and photographs with descriptions, on display both at Collingwood Public Library and Simcoe Street Theatre.

Community members are also being invited to listen to the stories of local historians, veterans, and artists who help us resist forgetfulness.

This project invites the community to ask themselves: What are the realities of war? Why should we be grateful for those who fought for us? What are the consequences of losing personal stories of war?

Join us for a week-long, artistic, interactive exploration of the reality of our freedom, and the cost many paid to bring it home to Canada.

Most events and exhibits are free to attend. Complete details and schedule are available at https://www.5thstreet.ca/

The Collingwood Public Library is committed to guiding our community in the pursuit of information, the wonder of lifelong learning, and the enrichment of social and cultural experiences. At the heart of the community, the Collingwood Public Library is an inclusive environment seeking universal accessibility.
