NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE
*************************
Members of the Huronia West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to wish all residents and visitors an enjoyable Canada Day long weekend.

It should be expected that there will be more vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic in the area. Please be patient, give yourself extra time to get to your destination, and remember to share the roads safely.

For those that live in or visit Wasaga Beach, there will be an increased presence of police, bylaw and provincial park wardens to ensure the safety of all.

This is a reminder that if you are planning to visit the beach, alcohol consumption is prohibited on the beach, in any of the parking lots or in any of the public areas. Alcohol can only be consumed in a fully licensed establishment or in a private residence. Police, bylaw and parks will be enforcing the rules.

Driving any vehicle or vessel while impaired by alcohol or drugs will never be tolerated. Those that engage in any dangerous or irresponsible driving will be held accountable.

For those that choose to swim, participate in water activities or are in a boat, please remember to wear your life-jacket and make smart, safe decisions. Be mindful of your own abilities in the water and do not put yourself or others in a dangerous situation. Life-jackets save lives.

If you are in a boat, personal watercraft, or an inflatable raft, please ensure that you have the appropriate number of life-jackets, that you have all your safety equipment and that you are properly licensed to operate that vessel, if it requires a licence. The Huronia West Marine Unit will be out on the Nottawasaga River and Georgian Bay and will be checking for compliance.

Public safety is one of the top priorities of the OPP. Please help us and do your part in helping to keep our communities safe and secure. Always make good decisions and encourage others to do the same.

The Huronia West detachment would like to wish you all a safe and enjoyable long weekend and remember that if you do see a crime being committed, please contact us through our non-emergency number, 1-888-310-1122, or *OPP on a cell or in the case of emergency 911.
