How one group plans to raise $17,000 in an hour

The secret is strength in numbers

A group of women are pooling their resources to support local charities.

The 100+ Women Who Care South Georgian Triangle have pledged to each contribute $100 each time they meet to a charity agreed upon by the group. They do this four times a year.

There are 170 members in the new local chapter of Women Who Care, which was formed September, 2017. The group meets four times a year, and for one goal — to donate to charity.

The meeting goes like this: members nominate charities and three of them are chosen at random. The nominating member makes a five-minute presentation on their charity of choice. Later, each member votes to select the charity that will receive the financial support from the group. Members then make a $100 tax-deductible donation directly to the charity.

The meetings are typically an hour long, and at the next meeting of the local chapter, the group expects to raise $17,000 for a local charity. The next meeting is April 25 at the Collingwood Legion. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting at 7 p.m. Guests are welcome to attend and check out the process. For more, visit the local chapter’s website.
