Two Collingwood residents among 88 new COVID cases in region since Friday

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 88 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths today (May 31). 

There are currently 394 cases in the region still active. 

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 11,918 cases of COVID-19 with 10,854 of those cases recovered and 245 cases ending in death.

There are 20 people from Simcoe County and one from Muskoka District hospitalized with COVID-19, which is an increase of one new hospitalization since last week. 

The health unit has reported a total of 4,586 variant strain cases, with 256 of those still active. 

The health unit says 315,773 (52.2 per cent) of the total population of Simcoe-Muskoka residents have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19. Of those, 37,511 people (6.2 per cent of the population) have also received a second dose.

The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified). 

  • Collingwood (2): Two people between 18 and 34 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired, and the other is linked to close contact transmission. 
  • Wasaga Beach (1): One person between 65 and 79 years old whose case was community-acquired. 
  • Clearview (0): No new cases reported.
  • Springwater (1): One person 17 years old or younger whose case is community-acquired. 
  • Barrie (12): One youth under 18 years old, five people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and two people between the ages of 65 and 79.  Three cases are outbreak-related and seven are linked to close contact transmission. 
  • Innisfil (16): Five youth under 17 years old, four people between 18 and 34 years of age, two were people ages 35 to 44, five between 45 and 64 years old. One is community acquired and the rest are related to close contact transmission. 
  • Bradford (11): Two youth under 18 years old, four people between 18 and 34, one person between 35 and 44 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person aged 65 to 79. One case is outbreak related and three cases are community acquired.
  • Orillia (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Tiny (0): Zero new cases. 
  • Essa (4): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 35 and 44 and one between 65 and 79 years of age, One case is community-acquired.
  • New Tecumseth (6): Three people between the age of 18 and 34, one person between the age of 35 and 44,  one person between 45 and 64 years old and one person over the age of 80. They are all linked to close contact transmission.
  • Midland (1): One new case was reported in Midland. The individual was between the ages of 45 and 64. The case was community-acquired.
  • Tay (2): Two new cases were reported in Tay Township. One person between the age of 18 and 34, and one between the age of 45 and 64. One was reported as being outbreak-related.
