Grey Highlands is one of the latest Ontario municipalities to be included in a new Service Ontario pilot program for online marriage licence applications.

A news release from Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers confirmed Grey Highlands and Owen Sound are among the latest additions to the online application program.

Soon-to-be-married couples can apply for a licence online through a secure portal. Supporting documentation and identification can be submitted electronically and the licence can be picked up later in person.

Because municipalities issue provincial marriage licences, the online system has to coordinate with municipal town halls.

The municipality ensures the application is correct and complete and then the applicant can pick up the licence.

“Improving the customer experience is important to the Ontario government,” said MPP Rick Byers in a news release. “I’m pleased that Grey Highlands and Owen Sound were chosen to participate in the pilot, providing a quick and easy online process for couples applying for a marriage licence.”
