Once again, Georgian College supporters swung high to help deserving students as the 33rd Georgian College Golf Classic, presented by BMO, secured more than $205,000 in proceeds.

“Our Golf Classic is a long-standing tradition at Georgian that raises much-needed funds for awards, scholarships and bursaries, as well as the student food locker,” said Kevin Weaver, president and CEO, Georgian College. “We have a saying, ‘No student left behind,’ and we take this very seriously. We simply could not do it without the continued commitment of our community, donors and sponsors, who support our initiatives in such a generous way.”

This year’s tournament, hosted at The Club at Bond Head on May 23, provided golfers with a uniquely Georgian experience. Golfers began the day at a massage station, hosted by massage therapy students, and were treated to tasty delights prepared by culinary management students. They also had the chance to interact with students in a range of programs across the two golf courses at Bond Head.

“From Day 1, our committee was driven by the opportunity to help deserving students, many whose educational journey wouldn’t be possible without awards, scholarships and bursaries at Georgian,” said Addison Wallwin, Georgian graduate (classes of 2015 and 2019) and Golf Classic committee co-chair. “I’m so pleased we were able to raise as much money as we did for the students. This is our region’s future workforce, and they are well prepared for their careers thanks to Georgian.”

Graham Ferguson, committee co-chair, added they were “honoured” to devote their time to supporting students by helping to raise much-needed funds for Georgian students.

“Ensuring that the Georgian experience is not out of reach for anyone who wants to pursue their dreams and launch an exciting career was an amazing goal to work towards,” he said.

The Golf Classic was supported by a volunteer committee, which included co-chairs Wallwin and Ferguson, along with community members Steve Arsenault (class of 2002), Kimberly Brent, Marjorie Cook, John Daggett, Alex Daley, Courtney Duthie (classes of 2014 and 2017), Bryan Howcroft, Nicole Murphy, Hank Thibideau and Bill Wogden.
