Freezing Rain Warning in effect for:
- Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
- Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
- Dufferin - Innisfil
- Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago
- Bracebridge - Gravenhurst
Freezing rain is expected this afternoon and evening. Hazard: Ice accretion of 2 to 5 mm on some surfaces.
Timing: This afternoon and evening.
Discussion: An approaching low pressure system is expected to bring snow, freezing rain and rain to the area. Precipitation may begin as snow this afternoon and quickly transition to freezing rain before slowly changing to rain tonight.
Ice accretion on ground and road surfaces is expected to be variable as the ground is still relatively warm in some areas.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Utility outages may occur.
Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.
