This Friday (July 21) Ontario Parks will be offering free day-use access in celebration of Healthy Parks Healthy People Day.
David Piccini, the minister of the environment, conservation and parks, confirmed the return of free day-use this year to celebrate the global movement promoting the health benefits of getting outside in nature.
"I encourage all Ontarians to take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors, immerse themselves in the splendour of nature, and experience first-hand the restorative power of our provincial parks," stated the minister in a news release.
Ontario Parks is the largest operator of outdoor recreational opportunities in the province. Most of its parks offer hiking, cycling, paddling, swimming and more, all promoting physical health and overall well-being and happiness.
In addition to Healthy Parks Healthy People Day, Ontario parks is also promoting other opportunities to engage with nature.
During August, everyone is invited to participate in the 30X30 challenge, which encourages people to spend 30 minutes in nature for 30 days during the month of August.
And Aug. 9 is Hike Day, a new event this year that includes guided hikes at provincial parks around the province.
"Our government is also expanding recreational opportunities for families by creating the first new all-season, full-service provincial park in over 40 years, located at Bigwind Lake Provincial Park near Bracebridge," states a news release from the province. "We are also exploring the creation of a new urban provincial park near Uxbridge and recently announced Ontario’s first new conservation reserve in over a decade."
To guarantee access, visitors are strongly encouraged to obtain a daily vehicle permit up to five days in advance of the July 21 celebration at no charge for the 57 parks offering this service.
