A former public works operator who resigned last year has submitted his application to run for a seat on council next term.

Chris Potts filed his papers at town hall on May 5, and is the first to declare he'll be running for one of seven councillor positions.

Current councillor Yvonne Hamlin was the first to file nomination papers (on May 2), and she's applied to run for mayor.

Eric Lapoint, a Barrie resident, is also registered to run for the local trustee spot on the french public school board (Conseil scolaire Viamond). There's one person elected to represent Bruce, Grey, Simcoe, and Dufferin Counties.

Those wishing to run in the upcoming municipal election could submit their nomination forms starting May 2, and they will be accepted until August 19.

There is an online uncertified list of candidates kept updated by the town's clerk services staff.

The election will take place Oct. 24, 2022.
