A former Collingwood councillor has added his name to the list of candidates running for a spot on council in the upcoming fall election.

Ian Chadwick served as a councillor in Collingwood for three terms (from 2003 to 2014). He ran unsuccessfully for deputy mayor in 2018.

Chadwick was a freelance writer for Municipal World magazine and the communications co-ordinator for the Ontario Municipal Water Association. He currently works as a freelance writer, editor, graphic and website designer.

There are now four people registered to run for the seven councillor seats to be elected in the fall. Local entrepreneur Brandon Houston, current Coun. Deb Doherty and former town staffer Chris Potts have also declared their intentions to run.

Bob Madigan, currently in his second term as a councillor, has filed to run for deputy mayor and is the only candidate in that category so far.

Three people have registered to run for mayor: current Coun. Yvonne Hamlin, Deputy Mayor Mariane McLeod and former councillor Norm Sandberg.

There are four candidates for the various school board trustee positions. Mike Foley is running for the Collingwood and Wasaga Beach trustee position at the Simcoe County District School Board, Shawn Cooper is running for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, Eric Lapointe is running for Conseil scolaire Viamonde for the Bruce, Grey, Simcoe and Dufferin trustee position, and Claire Thibideau is running for Conseil scolaire catholiquie Mon Avenir as the Simcoe-Muskoka trustee.

Nominations for municipal election candidates opened May 2 and will close Aug. 19.

There is an online uncertified list of candidates updated by the town’s clerk services staff.

The election will take place Oct. 24.
