Counters, not cameras: these devices are supposed to be on Collingwood trails

People have been calling police to report hidden cameras on Collingwood trails, but they're not cameras at all

The Town of Collingwood is letting trail users know there's no need to call police over hidden devices spotted on some trails. They're counters, not cameras.

The town's Trails and Active Transportation Committee installs infrared counters on the Collingwood trail system to gauge the use of particular trails.

"The counters are installed inconspicuously to avoid tampering, however, some locations are more noticeable and have been misinterpreted as hidden cameras," states a notice on the town's website.

According to the town, some people have called OPP to report them as hidden cameras.

"If you see an object that looks like a sensor, please avoid any tampering or harm to the device," states the town's notice. "Volunteers ... are working hard to maintain this program and we ask trail users to be mindful of this study and avoid harming the sensors."
