Collingwood track athletes earn top-four OFSAA finish

CCI athletes in Ottawa this weekend for provincial championships

The following article was contributed by the Collingwood Collegiate Institute track and field team.

The Collingwood Collegiate Institute (CCI) Fighting Owls track and field team completed two incredible days of competition last week at the Ontario Federation of School Atheltic Associations (OFSAA) central regional meet at York University. This regional meet features the top athletes from Georgian Bay Secondary School Association, York Region and Durham Region. The team pulled off a multitude of personal best performances and posted 33 top-eight finishes. In the end, CCI place fourth overall out of 104 schools at the meet.

The team now will move on to the all-Ontario OFSAA Championships with 10 athletes qualifying in individual events and five more who are part of the school's 4x400m relay teams. In order to compete at the provincial championships individuals and teams must finish in the top four positions at the regional meet with only the top 24 athletes in all of Ontario getting to participate at OFSAA.

CCI athletes produced some outstanding performances en route to the provincial Championships in Ottawa on June 8th-10th.  The Black and Gold will be represented by the following great runners, hurdlers and jumpers:

  • Sabine Cornell - Novice Women’s 1500m and 3000m
  • Wes MacMillan - Junior Men’s 1500m and 3000m
  • Keira Sawyer - Junior Women’s Long Jump and High Jump
  • Jack Sands - Novice Men’s 100m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles (both new school records)
  • Ben Mundle - Senior Men’s 800m
  • Max Sloan - Senior Men’s 110m Hurdles
  • Chantal Abbott - Senior Women’s 3000m
  • Miles Dempsey - Senior Men’s 400m Hurdles
  • Evan Moore - Novice Men’s 3000m
  • Jack Shaw - Junior Men’s 300m Hurdles
  • Payton Dodd - Open Women’s 4x400m Relay
  • Mackenzie Wall - Open Women’s 4x400m Relay
  • Gabby Wall - Open Women’s 4x400m Relay
  • Sawyer Lammle - Open Men’s 4x400m Relay
  • Toby Henry - Open Men’s 4x400m Relay

In all it was a great “OFSAA semi-finals" competition for the Owls as an overall team - a common theme throughout all of this season’s competitions. CCI athletes are currently in Ottawa for the 2023 all-Ontario OFSAA championships.
