Collingwood residents step up to help Operation Christmas Child

Collingwood residents packed 1,310 shoeboxes with toys, school supplies and personal care items, then shipped to impoverished children around the world

It was a successful season for Operation Christmas Child.

In Collingwood, 1,310 shoeboxes were packed with toys, school supplies and personal care items, then shipped to children around the world, including many who are suffering from war, poverty, disease and disaster.

Those got added to 5,039 shoeboxes from Barrie and 799 more from other parts of Simcoe County.

Throughout Canada, the Samaritan’s Purse fundraiser saw 425,209 shoeboxes filled in 2023, 154,229 in Ontario alone.

“We are thrilled to see the enthusiastic participation of Canadians in Operation Christmas Child,” said Kendra Shields, Operation Christmas Child’s Canadian director.

“It is very encouraging to know that so many generous people want to give hope and joy to children in need around the world," she added.

Samaritan’s Purse says participants often shop for deals year-round for items to put in the shoeboxes.
