Collingwood high schools mark Relay for Life, raise thousands

Both Collingwood Collegiate Institute and Our Lady of the Bay hosted Relay for Life fundraising events yesterday, raising funds for cancer research

Collingwood high school students spent the day outdoors on June 8, uniting to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society through the annual Relay for Life event.

While typically Collingwood Collegiate Institute (CCI) and Our Lady of the Bay Catholic High School (OLB) host a joint relay event, COVID restrictions forced the schools to host separate events on the same day.

At CCI, the event ran from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and at OLB, it ran 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with participants walking the track for the entire duration.

The event began with a survivor lap and finished with a luminaries walk and ceremony meant to honour those who have died from cancer and those still battling it.
