Collingwood, Clearview, Wasaga residents among 49 new COVID cases in region

Nine of the last 12 cases reported in Collingwood have been community-acquired

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 49 new cases of COVID-19 in the region today. 

Included on the Dec. 23 list of new COVID-19 cases are 11 Barrie residents, one Collingwood resident, one Wasaga Beach resident, one Clearview resident, 11 Bradford West Gwillimbury residents, three Innisfil residents, and one Orillia resident.

The health unit notes there is a lag in the data presented in the daily updates because of an increase in cases. 

The breakdown of cases provided by the health unit is as follows. All case transmissions are under investigation unless otherwise indicated: 

  • Collingwood (1): One woman between 45 and 64 years old. Since Dec. 16, the health unit has confirmed 12 cases of COVID-19 in Collingwood and nine have been deemed community-acquired. Two are linked to close contact and one is still under investigation.
  • Wasaga Beach (1): One man between 45 and 64 years old, whose case is linked to close contact
  • Clearview (1): One woman between 65 and 79 years old
  • Barrie (11): Five individuals between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, and four people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is community-acquired and one is linked to a congregate setting outbreak
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (11): Three people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, three people between 45 and 64 years old, and three people between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact.
  • Innisfil (3): One boy under 18, a woman between 18 and 34 years old and a woman between 35 and 44 years old.
  • Orillia (1): A woman between 35 and 44 years old
  • Ramara (1): One woman between 18 and 34 years old
  • Oro-Medonte (1): One woman between 35 and 44 years old whose case is linked to an institutional outbreak
  • Springwater: A woman and a man between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact.
  • Tay (1): One woman between 45 and 64 years old 
  • There are five new cases from Adjala-Tosorontio, five from Essa, and five in new Tecumseth. 

The local health unit has now confirmed 3,159 cases of COVID-19 with 2,469 of those cases recovered and 60 cases ending in death. There are 623 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, with the majority of those in Simcoe County.

There are at least 21 people from Simcoe County hospitalized. 

One person is hospitalized with COVID-19 at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.

There have been 3,027 cases confirmed in just Simcoe County, with 2,361 of those now recovered and 58 deaths.
