Collingwood Cinema Club is excited for an upcoming film event that doesn't usually include local movie theatres.
Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is including Collingwood Galaxy Theatre in a list of satellite screening sites for a film on Monday night.
The film, Night Raiders, by director Danis Goulet, will be screened on Sept. 13 only at the local theatre.
The film is set in a dystopian post-war future where the military has seized control of society. The control tactics used include taking children from their families and putting them into state academies, or forced-education camps.
Niska (Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers) is a Cree mother who joins a group of vigilantes in her quest to rescue her daughter Waseese (Brooklyn Letexier-Hart).
The film's story echoes the Canadian (and other national) residential school system and forced assimilation of Indigenous children and youth.
Tickets are $13.99 plus tax and available online here (select Collingwood location).
