As a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community, the Town of Collingwood is excited to celebrate Bike Month throughout the month of June.

Collingwood Bike Month encourages the community to bike to work, to school or to their daily activities. Cycling is great for our health, our productivity and the environment. Bike month takes place across the province, celebrating recreational cycling at all levels with an emphasis on cycle safety.

Check out the list of Bike Month activities below; you’re sure to find a way to incorporate more cycling into your daily routine.

28 May - Bike Month launch

Collingwood Bike Month will launch on Monday, May 28. Hop on your bike, grab your helmet and add a stop at Town Hall to join in the celebration.

  • 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. – Enjoy a free hot coffee, courtesy of Ashanti Coffee, plus get a free bike light to increase visibility.
  • 4 p.m. - Celebrate bike month with members of Collingwood Town Council taking their turn on the Smoothie Bike Blender in front of Town Hall. Free bike lights will also be available.

28 May - Bike to school/work week photo contest

May 28 also marks the start of Bike to Work and Bike to School Week. Snap a photo of your bike journey to school or work, post it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using #Cwoodbikemonth and tag Experience Collingwood to enter our Bike Month photo contest. You could win a $50 gift certificate to your choice of businesses in Collingwood. Photos must be posted between Tuesday, May 29 and Saturday, June 2, 2018.

All June long - Bike safety events for kids

Throughout Collingwood Bike Month, bike safety events will be taking place at local elementary schools. These bike safety events will be hosted by the Collingwood/Blue Mountains OPP, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and Healthy Kids Community Challenge. 2 June - Safe cycling certification station at Move Collingwood Day

On Saturday, June 2, bike to Move Collingwood Day happening at Central Park from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Learn new skills from a Cyclocross national champion and a mountain bike national champion. Try the cycle ramps and obstacles, check your helmet and equipment, participate in the safety skill station and receive a cycle safety certificate. 1 July – Optimist Canada Day bike ride

On Sunday, July 1 the Canada Day Family Bike Parade will start at 10 a.m. at Trott’s Sports Excellence parking lot (290 Hurontario St.) and end with everyone cycling into downtown Collingwood. Prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated bike. Additional details are available online.

In 2017, the Town of Collingwood was awarded a Bronze Bicycle Friendly Award by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition, and the municipality is committed to continuing to improve bike education and safety in the community.

“Bike Month is a great way to celebrate cycling in Collingwood,” said Collingwood Mayor Sandra Cooper. “Whether you are a serious road or mountain biker, or just like to ride bikes recreationally as a family on the trails, everyone can get involved.”

All events are made possible by a partnership with the Ontario Safe Cycling Education Fund and the Collingwood Healthy Kids Community Challenge.
