*************************
The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in co-operation with our partner communities, is hosting bicycle safety events on Aug. 30, 2023, in Thornbury and on Aug. 31, 2023, in Collingwood.

The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP and OPP Community Safety Section (CSS) will be hosting free bicycle safety events on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Blue Mountains Community Centre (Thornbury Arena), 58 Alfred St. W., Thornbury, and Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Centennial Pool parking lot, 451 Third St., Collingwood. There is no pre-registration and these events will be rain or shine. We ask anyone interested in participating to arrive on time to register and have their equipment inspected before the program begins.

The Ride Smart program is a program offered by OPP CSS. The program is designed for participants from grades 4 to 7, to learn everything from equipment safety checks, how a helmet should fit properly, and modules to teach safe cycling skills. It is free for participants and all the equipment will be supplied, but if kids want to bring their own bike and helmet, it is encouraged.

The local cycling shops in Collingwood and Blue Mountains (Skiis & Biikes, Kamikaze, Little Ed’s, Squire John’s and Smitty’s) have donated prizes to the event and will provide technicians on hand to inspect the participants’ bikes.

Registration will be 10 to 10:30 a.m. each day, and instruction will begin following registration.
