A new crosswalk that was supposed to be ready this month has been delayed.

The Hamilton Drain Crossing, located on Hurontario Street south of Stanley Street, is just beginning construction now. Original estimates put construction in July and completion in August before the school season started.

According to Adam Ferguson, director of communications for the town, the delay was caused by a backorder on some “crucial” parts.

The town has not released the exact date when the crosswalk will be finished. Ferguson said the project is now expected to be completed early this fall. Footings, supports and electrical wiring have been installed this month.

The new crosswalk will include button-activated flashing lights, and will join the trail system together in the area.

St. Mary's Catholic School and Elementary School Catholic Notre-Dame-De-La-Huronie are in the area near where the crosswalk is to be installed.
