The results of the first five weeks of voluntary asymptomatic testing have turned up two total cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County schools, according to the province's reporting as of today.

In the last local round of asymptomatic testing, 179 tests were completed as part of the Simcoe County District School Board’s fifth clinic, held on April 1 at Barrie North Collegiate Institute in Barrie. One positive result was returned, however, no information is being provided by the province on which school the positive case came from.

Students and staff from Andrew Hunter Elementary School, Cundles Heights Public School, Hillcrest Public School, Learning Centre (Barrie campus), Oakley Park Public School and Simcoe Shores Secondary School (North Barrie location) were also eligible to attend the clinic.

Over at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, 210 tests were completed at their fifth clinic on March 31 at St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Barrie. The province is reporting that no positive cases were discovered as part of that clinic.

In total over the first five weeks of voluntary asymptomatic testing, there have been 1,722 tests completed, with two positive results reported by the province through any of the Simcoe County clinics.

There are no voluntary asymptomatic testing clinics planned for next week at schools due to the spring break, however according to school board officials, some pharmacies across Simcoe County are opening their doors to expand voluntary asymptomatic testing to students the week of April 12-18, with eligibility changing at some Shoppers Drug Mart locations as of April 14. Voluntary asymptomatic testing in schools is planned to resume the week of April 19.
