And they’re off! Collingwood students compete in cross-country

Students from across Simcoe County came to Highlands Nordic in Duntroon on Oct. 12 to participate in Georgian Bay Cross Country Series

About 400 students from 30 schools across Simcoe County ran the trails at Highlands Nordic on Oct. 12 to compete in the Georgian Bay Cross Country Series, which serves as the third of four races that act as qualifiers for the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association Championship, and in turn, for OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations).

Students from schools such as Collingwood Collegiate Institute, Our Lady of the Bay Catholic High School, Bear Creek Secondary School and Barrie North Collegiate all travelled to the Duntroon course to participate.

Students were split into six groups to participate: novice (Grade 9, four kilometres), junior (Grade 10, five kilometres) and seniors (Grade 11 and 12, six kilometres), and a boys and girls division for each. Para-athletes also attended to participate in the novice division.

Results are being tabulated and will be released in the coming days.
