Military aircraft both newer and older will fly over CFB Borden on April 2 to mark 100 years of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
The fly-bys are part of the celebratory activities taking place that day at CFB Borden, which is known as the birthplace of the RCAF.
At 11:50 a.m., a civilian-operated, Second World War-era Harvard training aircraft will fly over, followed at 11:55 a.m. by an RCAF CF-18 Hornet fighter jet.
The April 2 celebration will also include the unveiling of the Astra monument, “which honours the sacrifices and achievements of Canada’s air force personnel who have served over the past century and the important role that the RCAF will continue to play in Canada’s future,” the Department of National Defence stated in a news release.
In the evening, CF-18s will conduct a fly-by of Blue Mountain Resort during a reception at 5:15 p.m.
“All RCAF aircraft flying operations are carefully planned and closely controlled for public safety and are dependent on weather and flying conditions,” the release stated.
