The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 72 new COVID-19 cases and zero deaths in its latest update posted Dec. 1.
The new cases reported in the region today are as follows:
- Wasaga Beach (1): One person between 45 and 64 years old whose case is linked to close contact transmission.
- Barrie (30): Eleven youth under 18 years old, nine people between 18 and 34 years old, three people between 35 and 44 years old, five people between 45 and 64 years old, and two people between 65 and 79 years old. Six cases are linked to close contact transmission, five are listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the rest are still under investigation.
- Bradford West Gwillimbury (6): Three youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and one between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission, one is listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the rest are still under investigation.
- Innisfil (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. All three cases are still under investigation.
- Orillia (7): One youth under 18 years old, four people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission, one is listed as community-acquired (no known link), and the rest are still under investigation.
- Ramara (1): One person between 35 and 44 years old whose case is linked to close contact transmission.
- Severn (3): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked t close contact transmission and one is listed as community-acquired (no known link).
- Penetanguishene (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is still under investigation.
- Tay (5): Two youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 45 and. 64years old. Four cases are linked to close contact transmission and one is still under investigation.
- Tiny (1): One person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is still under investigation.
- New Tecumseth (4): Two people between 18 and 34 years old and two people between 65 and 79 years old. All four cases are still under investigation.
- Essa (2): Two youth under 18 years old. One case is linked to close contact and the other is still under investigation.
- Muskoka District (8): Three people from Bracebridge, and five people from Huntsville.
Included in the new cases reported today are 46 unvaccinated, five partially vaccinated, and 21 fully vaccinated people.
There are currently 610 active cases in the region.
Thirty people from Simcoe County and three people from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19. Six people are in the ICU. Of the hospitalized cases, 18 are unvaccinated, and nine were fully vaccinated. Six hospitalized cases were partially vaccinated. According to the health unit 35 per cent of hospitalized cases are under 60 years old.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 15,711 cases of COVID-19 with 14,823 of those cases recovered and 278 cases ending in death.
More than 74 per cent of the population living in Simcoe-Muskoka (including children) have received both doses of vaccine and nearly 78 per cent have had at least one dose of a vaccine.

- Uptergrove Public School, Ramara, declared Nov. 26, three cases
- St. John Vianney Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 26, nine cases
- Unnamed private school, Simcoe County, declared Nov. 26, 20 cases
- Monsignor Lee Catholic elementary school, Orillia, declared Nov. 24, two cases
- Hewitt's Creek Public School, Barrie, declared Nov. 22, six cases
- Tosorontio Central Public School, Everett, declared Nov. 22, 15 cases
- ESC Nouvelle Alliance (secondary school), Barrie, declared Nov. 19, three cases.
- Forest Hill Public School, Midhurst, declared Nov. 19, five cases
- St. Ann's elementary school, Penetanguishene, declared Nov. 19, two cases
- West Bayfield Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 18, seven cases
- Trillium Woods Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 18, six cases
- Severn Shores Public School, Cumberland Beach, declared Nov. 18, eight cases
- Maple Grove Public School, Barrie, declared Nov. 16, 14 cases
- St. Marie of the Incarnation, Bradford, declared Nov. 15, nine cases
- Monsignor Clair Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 15, eight cases
- W.C. Little Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 12, 10 cases
- Terry Fox Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 10, 10 cases
- St. Catherine of Siena Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 1, 11 cases
A school in Huntsville has been closed. There have been 24 cases associated with an outbreak at Spruce Glen Public School. This is the first time the health unit has ordered a school in the region to close during the pandemic.
An outbreak previously declared at Emma King Elementary School in Barrie was declared over on Nov. 30. There were nine cases associated with the outbreak.
